Chris King and the Gutterballs announce Painwaves Fall Tour
Tour starts September 25
“With one of the most unique voices in the Puget Sound, King is part sword pierce, part-feather falling through a gust.” – KEXP
“A ragged glory of soulful vocals and explosive indie rock. Chris King & The Gutterballs mix Neil Young & Crazy Horse with neo-soul touches.” - Glide
Chris King & the Gutterballs are excited to announce that they will embark on a fall tour in support of their new LP Painwaves, benefitting The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. The band has partnered with the Northwest chapter to raise funds to support awareness of the disease. The tour begins on September 25th at the East Gallatin Yacht Club in Bozeman, and tickets are available via:
Chris King, singer and frontman of Chris King & the Gutterballs, has lived with Crohn’s for over half his life; a sizable amount of time considering he’s only 27. The band’s partnership with the foundation will do its part to support awareness around living with Chron’s, especially as a touring musician. The band will be donating 20% of every show’s earnings to the foundation to further support the cause.
On Painwaves, Seattle, WA’s Chris King & The Gutterballs have crafted a record that breathes in the spaces between Americana, Country, and Rock & Roll. King’s plaintive, near high-lonesome voice and weary swagger belie his youth, though the maturity of his songwriting does little to dispel the illusion.
Sometimes life steps on the accelerator without asking permission, and Pain Waves is a snapshot of eighteen months of rapid-fire transition; a rush of reality that these days is all too relatable. Things had been going well for King and The Gutterballs. They released two acclaimed EP’s, landed spots on the prominent local Upstream, Freakout Fest, and Bigass Boombox festivals, and garnered adulation and rotation KEXP.
Then what might as well be called “The Blizzard of 2016” hit. “I got sober after a dramatic break up” says King. “We lost our bass player and our recording studio as our current president was being elected… and my dog passed away.”
As the pressure mounted, King fell into an emotional, existential whirlwind. “It became a pivotal point in my self-perception and my outlook on life in general. I found catharsis in songwriting. I still believe this is an amazing time to be alive. We can be real with ourselves and each other. I’m proud that this record dives in to the dark side head first. Yet there’s a brighter lining; signs of hope for the future, euphoria thru realism and cathartic release through pain.”
